Ian Gray, partner of Lonton and Gray sails wins the 2009 Medway Dragon regatta.

The 2009 Medway Dragon regatta was held between Thursday 17th and Sunday 19th July under the burgee of Medway Yacht CLub.  Racing started from a committee boat anchored in Long Reach, close to Kingsnorth power station, with the boats racing courses ranging from fifteen to twenty five mile courses round buoys specifically positioned for the event and navigation buoys in the river Medway and out in the Thames Estuary.

The fleet sailed one long and three short races.  With good sailing winds occasionally gusting to near gale force and intermittent heavy showers the sailing conditions tested the skills of skippers and crews. Racing was not without incident with three crew falling overboard but they were all quickly recovered with no lasting side-effects.

After the four races 'Scorpio' helmed by Ian Gray proved triumphant with an impressive results list of three firsts and one third.
